In other news:
On Friday, Symphonic Band sixth graders joined the Marching Cavos for their home game. Students performed stand tunes alongside the middle and high school band members. Despite the on-and-off rain, the students had a wonderful time and got a glimpse of what it might be like to join the Marching Cavos next school year.  Thank you to Mr. Gibbs for guiding the students through this wonderful experience.

We are beginning the initial planning and organization for Villano's School Musical. The musical directors held an interest meeting for all interested fifth and sixth-grade students last week and will hold a virtual parent meeting to assist with providing information and answering parent questions this week. The Virtual Parent Musical Info Session will be held on Thursday, October 22 · 6:00 – 7:00pm.

HALLOWEEN

Halloween is approaching, and we are excited to celebrate Halloween at school.

  • On Friday, October 30th, we will run our current full-day elementary school schedule, including our typical arrival and dismissal routines.

  • All students may come to school in their costumes.

  • Halloween masks covering the entire face will only be permitted during the Halloween party.

  • The homeroom teacher and class parents will facilitate Halloween parties before dismissal.

  • Students may not bring any items  (candy, goodie bags, etc.) to distribute to other students in their class.

  • Villano School does not host a parade.

  • To protect student safety, parents/caregivers coming to the school for student arrival and dismissal should avoid wearing any costumes that cover the entire face or carrying any faux weapons.

**Costume Guidelines**

  • Students are NOT permitted to bring any type of fake weapon (guns, swords, axes, etc.) to accessorize their costumes. If a student brings an item like this to school, it will be held in the main office and must be retrieved by a parent/guardian at the end of the day.

  • Costumes should be tasteful, modest, and appropriate for a school environment and for the age of the students in the school.  Costumes should also follow the basic guidelines of school dress standard

SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM HAPPENINGS

Fourth graders are sharpening their cursive skills while exploring prefixes, suffixes, roots, and base words. This combined penmanship and morphology class is one of their end-of-day learning cycles. Students are learning to unlock the meanings of unfamiliar multisyllabic words, one word part at a time.

¡En la clase de español!

Our fourth graders have been learning the parts of the body in Spanish (las partes del cuerpo). To put their new vocabulary into practice, students created their very own imaginative monsters and described them using the phrase “Mi monstruo tiene…” (My monster has…). Their creative monsters turned out amazing! We loved seeing their imaginations come to life as they practiced their Spanish!

In Ms. Senman's 6th grade ELA class, students began drafting narratives for their Figurative Language Cartoon Challenge! Students are writing descriptive paragraphs that incorporate at least three examples of figurative language, including similes, metaphors, and personification. After exchanging drafts with classmates for peer review, students will create colorful illustrations to accompany their writing. Their finished work will be displayed on our classroom walls to celebrate their creativity and writing skills!

This week, students in Mrs. Vitale's class put their factor knowledge into action while playing Factor Captor.  Students applied what they learned about factors of whole numbers to capture the most points!
